Sharing more knowledge with France and South Africa

The ANVS will cooperate more closely with its French colleagues at the ASN and its South African colleagues at NNR. We want to learn from each other and be better prepared for future challenges, such as possible new nuclear power plants in the Netherlands. One example is the exchange of information with South Africa about the ageing management of nuclear power plants.

Learning from the French for possible new nuclear power plants in the Netherlands

In Europe, France has many nuclear power plants and has up-to-date experience with building plants. The importance of learning from French experiences is compelling, given the new initiatives for nuclear energy in the Netherlands.

Knowledge exchange with South Africa on ageing management of nuclear reactors

South Africa and the Netherlands have a similar research reactor – the Safari reactor in South Africa and the High Flux reactor in Petten. The ANVS and South Africa exchange knowledge about the ageing management of these reactors, such as the condition of reactor parts and when these need to be replaced.

Cooperation agreements signed in Vienna

The cooperation with French and South African regulators is laid down in memoranda of understandings. These formally establish previous informal agreements on cooperation and knowledge exchange. The agreements were signed on the annual general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held in Vienna on 26 and 27 September 2023.
