LRQA licensed to inspect nuclear pressure equipment for five years

The Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection has designated LRQA as an inspection body for nuclear pressure equipment. Interested parties wishing to file an objection to our decision may do so until midnight on 13 February 2025.

Screening nuclear pressure equipment, from design to operation

On 26 July 2024, LRQA submitted an application to the Authority to fulfil the role of inspection body for nuclear pressure equipment. LRQA inspects pressure equipment from its design through to the operational phase.

Pressure equipment ensures nuclear safety

Nuclear pressure equipment ensures nuclear safety in nuclear facilities. This equipment can be found in nuclear power plants, for example in the RPV or in the pipes that can come under great pressure.

Inspection body for a five-year period

In its decision (in Dutch) of January 2, 2025 the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection has designated LRQA as an inspection body for nuclear pressure equipment. The Authority’s decision is valid for five years. This designation has a longer period of validity than previously granted by the ANVS. That is because from 1 January 2025, designation follows the new ANVS Regulations on nuclear pressure equipment, nuclear security and decommissioning. The new Regulations make it possible to grant a designation for a period of five years instead of two, as was previously the case.

Deadline for objections: 13 February 2025

Interested parties wishing to file an objection to our decision may do so until midnight on 13 February 2025. If you wish to object, you must do so in writing and include:

  • the date
  • your name
  • your address
  • the grounds for your objection
  • your signature

Send your notice of objection to: Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection, P.O. Box 16001, 2500 BA The Hague, stating ‘Objection LRQA designation’ as the subject.

Preliminary relief

If your objection is urgent, you can also request preliminary relief (in Dutch). This course of action ensures that the decision is not implemented until the Administrative Jurisdiction Division has assessed your request and issued a decision. You may apply for preliminary relief after submitting your objection. You can do so through the digital service desk of the Council of State (in Dutch), using DigiD to log on.

A court fee is charged for the handling of applications for preliminary relief. If you would you like to know more about the costs involved, or if you have any other questions about this process, call the Council of State on +31 70 426 44 26.
