The second Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) will take place in the Netherlands from 4 to 16 June 2023.
System of nuclear safety and radiation protection
A team of international experts will come to the Netherlands and peer review the national system of nuclear safety and radiation protection. This mission is a way for the Netherlands to examine and improve existing policy and regulations in these two areas. An IRRS mission arises from European legislation that requires a self-assessment to be carried out once every ten years and to have it tested by an international expert group.
Method
An IRRS mission begins with a self-assessment. Experts from the ANVS, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport complete various questionnaires on various themes in advance and prepare a report.
The international experts will then come to the ANVS in June 2023 to ask questions about this report and to continue the discussion. They then process all input into a report with recommendations, suggestions and good practices for the Netherlands.
National entities then include the recommendations relevant to themselves in their annual plans. Four years later a IRRS Follow Up mission comes back to the Netherlands to look into the progress that has been made by the various entities involved.
The first IRRS-mission took place from 3 to 13 November 2014 and led to the founding of the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection in 2015.
