ANVS and US NRC sign extension Arrangement

On Wednesday 20 September 2017, the Chairman of the Board of the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS), Jan van den Heuvel, and the Chairman of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC), Kristine Svinicki, signed an extension of their Arrangement during the IAEA General Conference in Vienna. This Arrangement records how the parties will continue their cooperation in nuclear safety matters and the exchange of technical information.

The ANVS and US NRC in the Netherlands and the United States respectively supervise nuclear safety and the protection of the population and the environment against the hazards of ionizing radiation. Both organizations truly value sharing information regarding regulatory matters and standards for regulating safety, security and environmental impact of nuclear facilities. This Arrangement is an extension of an existing arrangement between the US NRC and the former Department of Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Security and Safeguards (KFD) signed in 2013.

Cooperation and Exchange of Information

The Arrangement describes how both authorities will continue their cooperation and what matters they will inform each other of. Furthermore, the Arrangement records agreements on participating in training programmes and courses and cooperation in the field of research. The exchange of information will primarily consist of sending letters, reports and other documents. Mutual visits can also be made and meetings can be organized on an ad hoc basis.
