Comment now on national fire protection report
Anyone can comment on the national reports on fire protection drawn up by nuclear regulators in EU Member States until 9 February 2024. The Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS) has also drawn up a national report, on behalf of the Netherlands.
Questions can be submitted until 9 February 2024
Anyone can comment on the reports of all EU Member States through Stakeholder participation (Q&A) on the TPR II on ‘fire protection’ at nuclear installations. The questions will be answered by each country’s nuclear safety regulator. The ANVS is responsible for doing this on behalf of the Netherlands. The European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) will publish a summary of the questions and answers on its website before the end of 2024.
Working towards an action plan
The five largest nuclear facilities in the Netherlands collaborated on the Dutch report on fire protection, describing what actions they take in relation to the topic. The ANVS coordinated their reports and combined them into a national assessment report. In the next phase of the Topical Peer Review (TPR), other countries will review our report, and we will review their reports. In 2025, all the countries will draw up a national action plan listing their planned actions.
Improving nuclear safety
EU Member States must assess a key nuclear safety issue in a TPR every six years. Currently, the key issue under review is fire safety, given the paramount importance of fire prevention and effective firefighting capabilities in nuclear facilities. ENSREG coordinates the entire process of TPRs. ENSREG is an independent expert advisory body of the European Commission, which deals with nuclear safety.
