The Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS) plans to renew the licence for IJsselland Hospital Rotterdam. The hospital holds a licence to work with radioactive substances and devices. The renewal is intended to make the licence more structured, and anyone is entitled to respond to the draft licence renewal until 31 December 2025.
Devices and radioactive substances for medical applications in the Rijnmond region
IJsselland Hospital Rotterdam is a regional general hospital that provides health services in the Rijnmond area. For this purpose, the hospital uses devices that emit ionising radiation, such as X-ray machines, and also uses radioactive materials for specific treatments, including cancer treatment.
IJsselland Hospital has 4 locations, and works with ionising radiation and radioactive materials at 3 locations in the Rijnmond region: at the main location at Prins Constantijnweg 2 in Capelle aan den IJssel, the Krimpen aan den IJssel location at Groenendaal 1 in Krimpen aan den IJssel, and the Kralingen location at Oudedijk 15 in Rotterdam. The fourth location, Nesselande outpatient clinic, does not work with ionising radiation or radioactive substances.
Making the licence clearer and more practical
We have advised that the IJsselland Hospital have its licence renewed. The licence currently held by the hospital originates from 1991 and has already been amended 8 times, and the legislation has now also been changed. The result is that the licence has become unclear, while the renewed licence, on the other hand, is clearer.
The IJsselland Hospital can quickly see what it is licensed for and what requirements it must meet. This will mean that the hospital will be able to more easily abide by the rules in a more effective way. In addition, it is easier for us to check whether the hospital is complying with the rules and is handling radioactivity safely.
