The ANVS has lifted its previously imposed financial penalty order on the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis (OLVG) Hospital in Amsterdam. Re-inspection has shown that the hospital has not repeated the breach and has now complied properly with the procedures for disposal of radioactive waste. Therefore, the reason for the enforcement measure no longer applies.
Previous breach
The ANVS imposed a financial penalty order on the OLVG in April 2025 due to its improper disposal of radioactive waste. Since a prior inspection had already observed that the hospital did not always follow the procedures for radioactive waste, the ANVS imposed a financial penalty order on the OLVG. These were intended to prevent a repetition of the breach and to force the hospital to improve its internal procedures and working methods. This was accompanied by notification from the ANVS that a re-inspection would be carried out to check whether the measures were effective.
Outcome of re-inspection
During the re-inspection, the ANVS established that the OLVG had strengthened its working methods relating to the handling of radioactive waste and that no further breaches had occurred. On this basis, the ANVS decided to lift the financial penalty order. Consequently, the sanction is no longer in force.
ANVS regulation and intervention strategy
The charges have been lifted in accordance with the standard enforcement strategy of the ANVS, under which a penalty can be terminated as soon as it has been demonstrated that the breach is no longer taking place.
