The ANVS is renewing the licence for Stichting VieCuri, Medical Centre for North Limburg (VieCuri). The current licence for this hospital is out of date. VieCuri uses radioactive materials and devices to diagnose and treat diseases. That is what the hospital in Venlo, Venray and Panningen does. Our draft licence specifies how the hospital should do so safely. Interested parties have the right to appeal against this licensing decision until midnight on 1 April 2026.

Licence is more in line with practice

VieCuri provides specialised care, training for specialists and medical research in the North Limburg region. The renewed licence now states more clearly what VieCuri is exactly licensed for at the three different locations. The hospital wishes to offer new therapies and is therefore also applying for a licence for additional devices.

The new licence will enable the hospital to better comply with our conditions regarding the safe use of radioactive materials and devices. The old licence occasionally still referred to outdated legislation.

VieCuri uses radioactive materials and devices to make medical diagnoses and treat diseases of the lungs, heart, thyroid and prostate. VieCuri also uses it to treat various types of cancer. Patients can go there for X-rays and irradiation, for example.

Protecting people and the environment

VieCuri has been granted the renewed licence because we believe that the hospital is handling radioactive materials and devices safely. VieCuri is taking adequate safety measures to protect its workers and patients from radiation. VieCuri also ensures that discharges of radioactive materials into the air and via the sewer system are kept to a minimum. In this way, the hospital prevents negative consequences for people and the environment.
