The ANVS is publishing documents relating to our input to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW). These documents were requested as part of a request under the Open Government Act (Woo) and concern the National Programme for Radioactive Waste (NPRA). More specifically, they concern our contribution as subject-matter experts in the fields of radiation protection and nuclear safety. Radioactive waste is one of the areas covered by these fields.
Programme for the management of radioactive waste
All EU Member States are required to have a National Programme for Radioactive Waste (Dutch). This document sets out how a Member State currently manages, and intends to manage in the future, radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. The first version of the NPRA was published in 2016, and IenW is working on a second version. The draft of the second version was available for public inspection (Dutch) from 11 February to 24 March 2025.
ANVS as an expert advisor to the government
The ANVS did not itself submit a formal response to the NPRA. However, our subject-matter experts did provide the Ministry of IenW with comments and observations on the document. This is consistent with our statutory duty to advise government bodies on policies, legislation and regulations. Our input on the NPRA was requested as part of a Woo request. We are now publishing these documents.
Redacted information
Some information in the requested documents has been redacted. This may be the case, for example, where information did not concern the NPRA and therefore fell beyond the scope of the Woo request, or where the documents contained personal data. The grounds for redacting information are set out in the decision letter accompanying the documents being published.
